You didn't like everyone's answers given to you yesterday?

I thought that the folks over at Hothardware gave a pretty good comparison between motherboard RAID and the Areca PCI-E card RAID considering they used the board that you say that you have - the ASUS P5W64.

Here is a link back to your original thread.

Original thread.

and a link to the review of the Areca RAID 0 versus the ASUS onboard RAID 0:

But forget everything else I asked. What is the absolute fastest possible RAID 0 setup with 4 HDDs for the P5W64 Professional. I need to know which HDDs and what RAID controller. Price is no factor. SAS or Raptor X

From what I am reading, the best combo is the Raptor and the Areca card.
An older article that I found for you outlines the SCSI/Raptor comparison.

Comparison article

The only thing that I don't really know about is the sound coming from the SCSI drives. I own the Raptor 10k 150mb drive and run my OS from it. The drive is louder (clicks) than my seagate. I would hate to think how loud 4 of them would be.

The fastest RAID is 2XIRAM's unless were talking large databases as it takes only 1 IRAM to beat even a 4 HDD's RAID.

Very true, but aren't those things still only good for up to about 8Gb at this time? Lightning fast, but still in its infancy.

I can't wait to see what they can do with it in the future. I would love to see a computer that has no moving parts, aside from perhaps the fans.

With 2XIRAM's, while only 8GB's, should boost even programs as large as 32GB's as only parts of the program not loaded into main memory could be loaded onto the IRAM. With Samsung and Microsoft bringing a 32GB SSD working on PATA, which THG did a review of, may move SSD's out of infancy. They are to small to be a replacement to HD's but for those only of us using 1 or 2 small programs IRAM maybe the best choice.
