Question about SATA Installation.

I just got this HDD from Newegg.

I am going to get this MOBO.

Now the question I have is this: Will I be able to install the HDD even without the cd? I know I need to get the sata cables, but can it be run without the cd?

This question is probaly dumb to you all, but I am a newbie at building pcs, I have upgrade the ram, gpu, and some other stuff though.

No drivers are necessary if you running it by itself, windows XP sees it as a standard IDE drive, however you need windows xp sp2 cdrom to fully utilize the full capacity of the drive as XP Sp1 is limited to 120GB

So I wont need to install anything once I hook it up? I will be using XP Home with SP2. It will see it as a IDE drive even though its SATA?

Are you installing Windows on it, cloning from an old hard drive, or are you just adding the drive as a secondary data drive?

FYI, that motherboard comes with the sata cable needed to hook it to the motherboard.

the hdd you chose only supports a sata power hook(other support molex aswell) but dont worry because your psu will either have some of them already and if not the motherboard provides molex to sata power convertors.

No installation other than the cable and power, you be good to go, windows will see it as a standard ide drive.

But, how will I install Windows if I wont have a HD?

What comes first in Installation? OS or HD?

Install HD, boot with OS CD, partition & format HD, install OS.

That is, if you don't need to F6 the drivers for the SATA controller. You might need to add that step after you boot to the OS CD.
