I'm not sure if this is an optical drive question or a cpu question. I see recommended specs for minimum cpu speeds for dvd burning but how much do you really need if time isn't a problem? Thanks.

This one of those 'it depends' questions - You should be fine with a PIII 450 or higher to most speeds. Burn Proof writers have helped as they can recover when the data can not be written to the device as other componets are bottlenecked. Saves making costers..

I certainly had no problems with a Samsung 16x writer on a Duron 900Mhz with 256Mb ram writing at 12x under Windows XP with Nero. Same box running Ubuntu has no problems using K3b. It does help if you have your writer and your HD on seperate IDE channels.

Do you have a certian system in mind? Post the specs if you have.
