There is another huge disscussion on this topic just recently. Sorry I don't have the link. But in short they felt it wasn't worth the money for risk vs performance gain. (At least that was my take on it). Ideally you increased the access time for programs because the strips may be located on different hard drives and thus the information can be read concurently. I do agree with those that feel the risk of losing 1 hard drive and thus losing all the data is probably not worth it in a personal computer. For a network the speed is necessary because multiple people are accessing the server drives constantly. Raid in that case is not only used to gain better performance but also to back up the data. I have never heard of any Server using Raid 0.

Not saying you can't get better performance from Raid 0 and multiple drives. But keep it backed up. If one goes down .... you lose everything.
