Anybody have any bench comparisons between these two cards? Which is the better deal today for the mid range card ? I know the x1900xt would outperform the 7950 in most cases but the 7900 gto seems like a really well developed card for the price. Is it similar ? What's one missing from the other.

Truthfully, either car will do most games justice. The X1900XT 256MB holds the advantage with OpenEXR HDR + Antialiasing support, while the 7900GTO has a larger framebuffer.

I have both, having bought the 7900 GTO to use the upgrade path, while selling my 1900xt prior to the fall.

Only difference I have noticed is the nvidia runs 20c cooler, and is not quite as "pretty", as I notice a few ragged edges here and there that were not apparent before.

Both mine are 512 mb versions, really needed at higher resolutions.

The 256MB X1900XT easily wins Firingsquads comparison. But note they turn off NV's default optimizations to get rid of the texture shimmering and more even up the IQ.

I just bought a BFG 7900GTOC and even though it is only 256MB I am happy.

It is not DX10 but I can wait a year or so. It is eaily over clockable even though it is already OC'd.

I can run mine with 1500MHz Ram and 510MHZ core.

Plays just fine.

@ bornking i have a 7900GT(XFX version tough) too and im easily able to OC my card to 580/850 with the stock cooler. Try it out!

I would go for the 7900GTO snice it has 512mb of ram and you can easily be able to OC that baby to GTX speed and for only 250! its crazy.

I am curious as to what program you use when OC'ing your card Xazax310.

I cannot get the mem past 750 X 2, and the core seems to stay at around 499... I use the program PowerStrip.

Thanks for the advice, and I wish I bought the 512MB version but I am stuck with the 256....oh well, untill a decent DX10 (second gen?).

Cheers!
