I planning to build a new computer and having trouble picking between the E6600 or E6700. I will be overclocking and I what the most mhz I can get for the money (budget for proc is $550). Which processor between the two will give the most performance, when overclocked, for the money?

I will be using only air for cooling....

Thanks

Unless you're getting a nForce4 board, get the E6600, you can spend the extra money on good RAM (DDR2-900+), a better video card (or second!).

Most E6600s are hitting 3.6 (400fsb * 9) easily.

They would probably max out at the same point, the E6700 might have alittle more headroom but it might not be noticeable on aire. The thing is that the E67 got a higher multiplier, so you will tax the whole system more with the E6700.

E6600 with DDR800, running on a 400FSB 1:1 with ram at 3.6ghz should be all you need!

I would personally wait for the nVidia 680i or a 650 sli, suppose to be a hard lunch in november.

For ram im really not up to date, I usually go check XtremSys and get ideas from their rig. Dont expect anything as crazy as they do but its nice to see their hardware!
