Can a DDR2 RAM 1066MHZ be used in a motherboard that suport 667MHZ RAM?

this is general question. OCZ sell dual channel extreme speed 1066MHZ DDR2 RAM. let's assume the motherboard FSB is 1066/800/667MHZ. or would the 1GHZ DDR2 RAM make a difference compare to 667 version?

If the motherboard only supports 667 then then RAM will work but be underclocked at 667. When OCing you won't have to worry about the RAM being the limitation using 1Ghz DDR2. If i'm not mistaking

yeah, you're right, well if the SPD allows for a speed below 1066mhz yeah. (thew SPD timings and speed would have to be lower than 667mhz to be recognisable and work)

mpilchfamily is correct about you being 'ensured' that the ram will work at 1ghz frequencies, AS LONG AS THE MOTHERBOARD, CPU ETC allow for this. :)

Ok thanks for your comment gOdman. I can choose the right Asus board now. I prefer the P5BE model. It supports FSB 1GHZ/800/667MHZ.
