Hi all, i just bought an Asus P5W DH delux with an E6600. I assembled the system myself, however the problem im having is the computer will not post. Power is being delivered to the MB by indication of the green LED, and fans spin when i hit the power button. However the fans spin for about 3 seconds then they stop, however green led light stays lit. No beeps or anything, just turns off. Now for the wierd part, when i take the memory out the computer will beep three times, and then turn off. Otherwise if i take the CPU out, the MB will stay on with fans spinning indefinately. I have also taken the MB out of the box and put it on an anti-static bag to test for grounding issue. I have tried a pentium D 945 in place of the cpu, reseated the bios (version 1305) and flashed cmos by way of jumpers. I have tested all parts including memory and processor in a different known good rig and they all work fine. This problem is slowly killing me inside, any and all information as to the cause of this problem would be greatly appreciated.

What do you mean a jumper is not set to work on the cpu? I have the latest bios version 1305 that does support my cpu. Thanks. Sorry if i misread your post but a little more explination or so would be very helpful. |

From your original post, you mentioned that all of the componets work because you tested them in other set-ups. What I am suggesting is that possibly there is a jumper not set correctly on that motherboard that stops the new cpu from working and shuts the system down. Granted, the MB and CPU are supported by each other but a jumper out of place on the motherboard could/might cause the problem you describe.

Is a jumper something i can fix by hand, if so where would it be located? Thanks. Sorry im still a bit of a newbie when it comes to hardware type work. I appreciate all the help. The only jumper im aware of is for Raid and Cmos, but if theres others i am all ears for trying to solve the problem.

What you need to do is check the placement and orientation of each and every jumper on the motherboard against what the book from the MB manufactorer shows they should be. Hopefully you will find that one of them is out of place.

They are all correct and it does not work. This MB would never boot even with the different processor. I have only used a single stick of memory on the computer as theres no other DDR2 around, could this be the problem, incompatible memory. |

I was thinking that but my shred of hope was that this mb/processor has been rma as a unit to the seller and they said they reset cmos and it worked perfect...would a company lie!?! |

Lets assume they told you the truth, but it doesn't work in your house. You could offer to send them your ram along with the mb and cpu and see what they say.. Likely they aren't interested in stealing your ram chips and maybe they'll send you back a working set-up. Best of luck.

Thanks for all your help man, it seems that they will accept a second RMA with the ram...i guess the best possible outcome is incompatible RAM and then e-bay the old stuff and hope to get a little money back. However with my luck i bet the whole thing is DOA and i will have to RMA the mb to asus and processor to intel...Once again, i appreciate all the time and effort you put into helping me out. |
