Hi,

I have a problem with a windows 2k machine as follows:

Machine has internet connection via a PPP dial up adaptor, which routes throught the built in broadcom NIC, to a SIU (rural broadband connection). IP for the built in NIC is automatically allocated.

I need to add an extra network to the machine (independant to above internet connection) with a fixed IP address to communicate with a standalone industrial controller (so only this device and the problem PC on this new network)

I have installed a 2nd NIC, assigned it a static IP and subnet mask. (192.168.1.8, 255.255.255.0). I can ping the remote device no trouble (remote device ip 192.168.1.10). Internet explorer can see the devices web server page.


However,

The proprietry software which communicates with the remote device cannot 'connect', and the NIC does not transmit any packets.

Checked 'route print' and it does show a

192.168.1.0 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.8

route, so it appears that all trafic to this network should be transmitted by the new NIC?


I am not an IT pro, networking is only on the fringe of my profesion, although in this case this is a problem I would like to solve.


Any comments?
