I have both an osx86 machine and a standard pc. On a media level, i use the osx86 machine for audio, and the pc for video. I want to know if theres a way for me to use a single set of speakers on both computers with as little audio quality loss.

I imagine there might be some kind of adapter so you can plug the speakers into both machines. I know you can get an adapter so you can use one keyboard and mouse to control two machines so why not speakers........

To start, I haven't lived in the states for over 6 years, but I would imaging you can get a switch with 2 inputs and 1 output where all of the jacks on it are 1/8" (naturally assuming that your speakers and audio outs are all 1/8" ). I would look at an electronics store like Radio Shack (or something like this). Look at it like a KVM switch, but not for monitor/keyboard/mouse. With this configuration all you would need is the switch and 2 male-male cables with 1/8" jacks (kind of like how you can connect the "control" signal between stereo equipment to avoid having like 6 remotes...

I hope this helps some and I wish I could tell you exactly where to find a switch like that, but that is the best I can come up with for now...

there are y adapters but theres too much quality loss for that. Are there any software solutions along the lines of over a network.

I bet if he googled it he would find a solution online.

DO NOT USE A Y ADAPTER!!!!! The signal from one audio source may very likely damage the other audio source! You will have to use a switch.

Sorry, don't know of any off the top of my head.

Another possible problem which comes to mind with the "Y" adapter is the possibility of overdriving and damaging your speakers if both computers are outputting signal simultaneously so keep that in mind also.
