Hi all

I would like to get some opinion on choosing a motherboard and a processor + RAM, i broke a fan+heatsink supporter on the mobo last night, anyway it was a P4 bought on 2001 but i'm low on budget to buy a new one so i thought of scrap out stuff from the old PC, so only things i have to buy will be stuff that i mentioned above.

the configuration in my head is a AMD64 3000+ (939) in a motherboard with geforce 6100 or 6150( i'm not a gamer) so i dont mind onboard graphics.

any recomendations on this ?

and i'm from Sri Lanka http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sri_Lanka

Thanks

I have never had any luck with ECS.

I have used 4 Biostar TForce-6100 and they were all very awesome. If you find them open box on newegg they're a bargain - otherwise expect 70 dollar range.

Well I'd say that if you're not gaming then onboard graphics are ok.But you should know that most onboard graphics will not run even dx9.0c games like madagascar.Oh it may run it for a few minutes, but you'll have crash after crash. And you should consider what other software you'll be running as not just games require a decent graphics card.Go with the 3000+ cpu and then grab a 9600pro 256 video card. They are very cheap(around 89 dollars canadian)and they'll run most graphics intensive software. Also, onboard graphics use system memory,so you'll run into a bottleneck from that, even with an adequit amount of system ram.Goodluck.

thanks guys i thought that no body will reply, yea it's true that onboard graphics sucks but i think this nvidia chipset board has a pcix slot

anyway buying online also not an option for me all the good online sellers don't deliver to this region i will have to satisfy with reseller's and not to mention i have only three major brands (Gigabyte,Asus,MSI) ..so i'll try to check other IGP's too.

Thanks again :D

You do know that you can replace the Heatsink+Fan holder?

I broke it on my DELL PC while replacing heatsink and just bought another one from ebay for £5!

If you want to go for Intel, cheapest and qualitywise is
------------------------
PENTIUM D 2 X 2.66 GHZ
ASROCK 775 DUAL VSTA Motherboard
7300LE GRAPHICS CARD

If you want to go for AMD still, cheapest and qualitywise is
----------------------------

AMD ATHLON 64 VENICE 3200+
Asus K8N-VM Motherboard NFORCE4 and NVIDIA 6100 Onboard Grapics

Come to compare my Intel and AMD suggestions, the AMD is the cheaper option.
