It's been a couple years since I've even cracked my case open. I shudder even now to think of the dust collected in there.
But I'm looking to upgrade and I'm a little out of date when it comes to my knowledge of current technology. Here's a list of what I'm looking to buy and my price ranges.
Motherboard ($175-200)
CPU ($175-200)
Vid Card ($175-200)
RAM ($150)
I'll also be purchasing a new hard drive and CD-ROM, but I'm pretty sure I can handle those. As you can tell I'm looking for some mid-range technology, and I'll be using it for gaming, mostly. My total budget is about a max of $800-900.
I'm an AMD guy so I've been looking at the AMD 64's, which were just being released the last time I even thought about buying something for my computer. But I'm willing to swing to the dark side if you tell me Intel would be better for gaming, which I have the impression that it is.
For the video card, I think that AGP slots have been done away with (or so I've beent told?) and PCI Exppress is the main format for graphics cards.
That's about all I've got, so any advice and/or suggestions would be of great help.
Oh, and I've done most of my shopping at Newegg.com and the Fry's Electronics about 20 miles south of my house, these two stores seem to have the best deals.
this setup will do the trick for you, if your not in to overclocking then you can take that DS3 away and the DDR2 800 ram and buy a better cpu or graphics card.
