I have a 4 year old scanner and a Windows 98SE operating system.
All of a sudden the scanner failed in a most peculiar manner. I t
starts to scan and about halfway through there is a loud chattering
sound and the scan fails. Is it worth repairing or should I scrap it?

Take it apart and look at it. Probably just dirt on the slider. My 1200S is
very easy to dissassemble. Thats what was wrong with it.
