2 Different Video Cards in PCI-E Slots?

I'm trying to run a Quad-DVI LCD Setup with the following hardware:

Motherboard: Abit AW8D
CPU: Intel Pentium D 945
Video Card 1: eVGA 7900GTO 512MB
Video Card 2: XFX 6600GT 256MB
Memory: Kingston 533MHZ DDR2
LCD: 4 x 21.3" Samsung 213T

The motherboard has 2 PCI-E x16 slots. I know that if I run it in XFire/SLI mode, both are reduced down to x8 speeds, but I only want to have it in to power 2 additional LCDs and not have them work together. Anybody know if they will keep my slots at x16 for my 7900GTO, also, does anybody have any input on this? I was considering switching to the Asus P4N32-SLI Deluxe motherboard because it has two independent x16 slots. Any opinions on that?

Both cards will work fine, you'll see four monitors in desktop properties. They'll go down to PCI-E X8 which matters not a whit because no graphics system on the market even reaches X4 bandwidth yet.

Really? I didn't know that, then why is there so much hype around the new nVidia 590 chipset that has 2 independent x16 slots?

Because that's all it is... Hype to try and sell more boards with that chipset. The funny thing is video cards havn't even reach the point of using the full 8x badwith that AGP can provide.
