Hey im gonna try overclocking my Intel Pentium D 805 to 4 Ghz
right now i have a Thermaltake Big Typhoon installed in my PC and im running my 805 D at 3.4 Ghz(170x20) with an idle temp of 31 degrees which i think is quite good. My motherboard wont let me raise the Vcore much only by 0.003 it says in the BIOS.
The motherboard im using now is a cheap ECS P4M800PRO-M and is crap i know but im getting a ABIT AB9 which is better i think and im hoping to get my CPU to run at 4 Ghz with it but im not sure if its possible cus the ECS motherboard im using now cant get higher than 3400 Mhz and i have to run the RAM at PC400 other RAM settings wont boot like PC533 and PC667 if i change the FSB over 149 Mhz which i think is due to the crap motherboard.
Im using a 410 W Chieftec PSU also and 2x 512 MB Corsair DDR2 PC6400 Value.
Do any of you think i can get a higher speed on my new motherboard, my goal is 4 Ghz so i can have a CPU i can say is quite "good".
Please help !

I have an Abit NI8 Sli and can hit 4 ghz with NF4 chipset.

The AB9 has 965 chipset which is generally better OCer so you may or may not hit 4ghz but I assume you will get a higher OC from the AB9 than your current ECS board.

Ecs boards are not meant to be oc'd but it is fun to try. Idle temps dont matter much, its how high does it go under full load? Also you may want to lap you cpu for better cooling , I had to replace the big typhoon's fan with one from silverstone fm121 and turned the vr all the way up(or down) in order to cool 4ghz. stock fan wont cut it(IME)and it'll be loud too.

I dont remember if that board lets you change the ram timings if it does you will have to. You can get more voltage by doing this MOD. its not as bad as it looks. Click on this spot

I did this mod a D915 and ecs400l board to over 4ghz stock was 3.3~3.4. I have done some crazy things with ecs boards, i like em just to mess with them. You can also try a vdimm mod if you cant adjust the ram voltage.
When you do get your new motherboard you can try to flash another ecs bios from a similiar board from there exterme series as there pretty much the same boards with less options but bios is more friendly for overclocking. If you mess up you risk bricking your board (also done that)

I wanted to get to 4GHz with my D805 on an Asus P5ND2-SLI!

But i've only managed to get 3.8GHz :(

I decided though, a 35% oc was good enough so i'm happy and uber stable at 3.6GHz! It does everything i want, but i would of like to hit 4GHz!

I did have a question though, if i used a D915 with my P5ND2-SLI - would i be able to hit 4GHz!?

I'm using a Scythe MINE Rev.B HSF!

EDIT : Just checking the price of the D915, i may aswell get the D945! Would this be very good at overclocking with my P5ND2-SLI though, or will i be disapointed for the £130 spent...!?

Well if you have a d805 its a waist to buy a d915 or d945 unless you can get it for uber:cheap , The D915 is nice cause it runs way cooler, talking about 4.0 ghz on a stock big typhoon with no issues, on water 4.4 ghz stable it runs about the same temp as a d805 @3.9ghz. you should look into why you cant get 4.0 ghz out of you d805 and verify it is the cpu.
