countries. E.g. could you use a US or Japanse card in Europe ?
It looks like Japanese 802.11b cards have the widest channel
set, so if you wanted to build an embedded product could you
use this card, and then restrict the actual channel usage in
different countries with software, or does a product/card used
in each country/region also need regulatory approval for that
region.

yep - no probs, most manufacturers install utilitys ask you what locale you
are in and set the channels accordingly
