i have a sound blaster live card that is not being used and i was wondering if for games and performance in games if its better to use the sound blaster live! 5.1 card or my computers onboard Realtek ALC 883 intergrated high definition audo. im not really looking for quality im more looking for performance.
I cant remember the links right now, but I was looking at a few boards that had the 882/883 codec, and I recall that the CPU utilization was very low, on par with SB Audigy, when it came to typical usage/gaming.
However, for EAX/surround audio, you tend to take a significant FPS hit in most games.
Just search for "883 benchmark" or "alc 883" + "review", you probably wont find a review JUST for the codec, but you'll definitely find lots of reviews of MBs that harbor this coded - those generally include audio performance benchmarks.
try the onboard for awhile and then install the SB and compare.
Onboard audio is alot better than it was a few years ago and comes close to some sound cards except the x-fi.
