I think the majority of the responses you will get will be the 975.

With that said, I have an e6600 and decided to go with the 965. The BIOS's are seeing wonderful improvements and you can usually get close to 500 FSB if not over. Of course this depends alot on what speed of ram you have, among other factors.

The 965 has ich8 and 975 uses the ich7.

depends what else you want in a mobo.
965 will hit higher fsb but with an E6600 you have the 9 multi so that isn't really a problem whereas e.g. with a E6300 it would be.
975 does Crossfire with dual x8, on 965 the second slot runs at x4 & you lose 5-7% performance.

In 975 mobos I would look at Abit AW9D series, Asus P5WH & if you have the budget P5WS64.
For 965 Asus P5B series, Biostar Tforce 965 series & Gigabyte DS3/DS4/DQ6.

from wat ive read the consensus is that 965 will hit a higher fsb, which makes it the better ocer.

975 on the other side, is higher end, will usually get more features etc.

965 ownz  go gigabyte s3 and dont look back. just dont use ide hds

P965 wins in OCing in all C2Ds by a mile. The one who dares to deny this will feel my rage
You were warned... But you know your PSU stuff so...

Gigabyte hasnt made a 975X motherboard for C2D.
The P5W DH will stay at ~400Mhz FSB unmodded and without sub-zero cooling like any other 975X... while the DS3 and P5B dlx (P965) oftenly hit 500Mhz.

The 965 chipset motherboards will overclock higher ...or will they?
from what I am seeing its more luck than chipset.
some cd2 E6600's will hit 4 + Ghz without effort.
Some will make it as far as 3.2Ghz and hit a wall.this has been mistakenly blamed on the performance of the board itself.

the Stronger more stable overclocks have been the 965 but not without having the ram, cooling, and power to push the motherboard to its limits.

either board will give you a very good experience providing luck is on your side. 8)

I said dry ice, not LN2...

But you saw how much trouble he had? Had to pot the NB too and vCORE was 1.81v and vMUCH 2.55v 8O

Now look at this:
E6400-4GhzOC-tuniq120.jpg

Done a Tuniq Tower 120 without much as slapping a 40mm fan on the NB. I know it isnt the same CPU but its the 500Mhz what im trying highlight here.

Yes he did have trouble
but he won on that 975X @ 516 fsb.
this is rare .
the 500 fsb is hard to keep going altho not hard to hit on the 965's
I may try after I get my water under control.
with the X1900XTX its hard to feed that board power for 24/7 and still game .

Do u guys think a P5W DH deluxe can overclock to 3ghz or further using water cooling with DDR2 800? Cause i really like the features this board has.

For sure on a E6600, probable in a E6400. Impossible without modding on the E6300.
