hp scanjet scanners

I have two hp scanjets, one is operating under XP and the other under
win98. In both cases you have to turn power off before initaialising
the scanner software. In some cases the system requires
re-installation of the hp software.

If anybody can suggest what to do I would appreciate it.

Do as I did with my Scanjet 3300 - used it as door stop for awhile and
then my nieces boyfriend said he would take it. I immediately drove it
over and now he uses it as a doorstop!

Had a similar problem with a scanjet 3500...HP sent me a new scanner...still
had the problem so I knew it was software related. If I recall correctly I
had upgraded the software to the latest on the HP web site...removed that
software and reinstalled the original software that came with the scanner
and it worked fine still to this day and it has been about a year and a
half. If you upgraded to the new software it still leaves both on the puter
so remove them both and try again. Follow the directions that come with the
HP to install it and after the installation reboot. Good luck.
