Has anyone used a SATA backplane like one of these:

4 Drive SATA Backplane

I would like to use something like this in my PC but am concerned about how loud it may be. It looks like there is just 1 80mm fan. Would this be too loud for a desktop system? I don't like 747's taking off from my desk

Thanks

I have the 5 Disk version of that from istarusa http://www.istarusa.com/divipcdiv/bpu-350sata.htm

it's not that loud. Is configurable how fast you want the fan to run. However, my sata300 drives are only negotiating a 150 connection, which bothers me.

I just received the istar backplane, in blue. and its not that loud with the fan on high. I haven't bothered switching it to low. I want my drives to be cool.

I wouldn't suggest a person be around it on a daily basis. i.e. if its going in your desktop computer. The unit would have to have the fan speed on low. And im not sure how loud that is. All I can say is, the fan doesn't make noise, its just the sound of alot of air getting pushed through the drive cages.

This is the second backplane i bought. I am very satisfied with it. The first one I bought had the drives vertical and could hold 5, but the LED's didn't work, and you couldn't remove/insert a drive, because the plastic would push into the drive bay below it. RMAed it to provantage.
