Which card is the best for my friend?

Forum Graphics & Displays : Graphics Cards Which card is the best for my friend?

Word :    Username :

I posted on here already about my graphics situation.
For my friend which card would you guys go with (best for the money) the x1800xt (256mb) or the 7900gs (256mb) or x1900gt?

He can get an open box x1800xt (256mb) for about 172 from newegg.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] =0&Ntk=all

He can also get a eVGA 7900gs for 165.99 after rebate from newegg as well.

Whats your pick, best card for the money?

X1800 XT should kick it hard to a 7900 GS.

Go X1800 XT for sure. Probably even a bit better than the X1950 PRO at high settings.

Performance goes in that order: X1800XT >(slightly) X1900GT > 7900GS 256MB.

Though in some games the order might change, but then the differences will be marginal and this is rather the exception.

I would definitly go with the X1800XT.

They are open box though, is that bad from newegg? Also if i was thinking about getting a x1900xt, should i just go ahead and go for one of these and save myself some money?

Seconded.

Motion carried.

and this one is even better for the price http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6814121031

It comes in and out of stock every few minutes though so get it when you can.

(eax1950pro for $165)

true, they have same specs

x1950pso only has 12 pipes, i don't see why everyone likes it so much?

Reply to physco827

thats because its quad ....each pipe does 4 shaders for a total of 36 pixel shaders compared to only 20 on the gs and 24 on the others....

only ATI's work like this....they are able to render more pixels faster....

12(36) 16(48) and so on so forth....

Read this. It's the best bang for the buck. And if you can get the ASUS (no VIVO though-if this matters) for $171, it's one hell of a deal.
