hi
i do't know which one is the cheapest sound card,
but almost every card will sound better than your onboardcard.
better get a card that can be connected to 5.1speakers.
I gots the Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 SE, I think it's called, for $28 Canadian (about $25US). It's nothing fancy but the sound is way better than my onboard sound, which had a booming bass on the default settings that would rattle my dishes ( I have 12" woofers). The Audigy had nice clear balanced sound right out of the box. I primarily bought the soundcard to use it's coaxial digital output as I was getting the dreaded speaker hummm using the normal onboard connections. Not sure about the EAC stuff. Audiophiles will poopoo this card and say you need the $80 XiFi or whatever, but it works for me!~
