so I followed the instructions here

http://www.tomshardware.com/2004/11/19/using_windowsxp_to_make_raid_5_happen/

to give XP the ability to create RAID5 array, and it works.

However, every time I reboot, the array comes up "FAILED" and has to regenerate itself which consumes lots and lots of CPU and takes like 12 hours (5*400GB SATA drives). So that's not good.

Anyone know why? a way around it. Otherwise this machine will need linux I guess.

I followed the make-software-RAID5-happen-with-winxp today, and have no problems after reboot.

4x seagate barracoda SATA 300GB

Have you checked and rechecked dmboot/config/admin for misspellings and rememberd to copy them bouth to dllcache and system32?

Well I switched to server 2k3 for a bit, which worked, but decided software raid wasn't for me so got a 9550SX-8LP on ebay for $300.

thanks anyways

Could it be a coincidence that your array is actually failing?

Just a thought, maybe it is actually working the way it is intended too...
