I have an old pc:samsung syncmaster 755 dfx,amd barton 2500+,kingston 333 512 mb x2,msi nforce 2 mobo,wd 40 gb 7200 rpm,ge-force 4 ti4200 128mb,sb live 5.1.It is almost 4 years old (apart from the cpu)and it has gotten really loud over the years, because of the dust accumulating on the various fans obviously.I'm thinking to buy a new pc paired to a hdtv(samsung or sony 27-32') with a new set of 5.1 speakers.
I've been thinking something like this:abit ab9 pro ,intel core duo 6600,2x1gb ocz 800 mhz, radeon 1900 xt, WESTERN DIGITAL RAPTOR 150GB WD1500ADFD 10000RPM SATA ,sb x-fi music+ logitech 5500 speakers.Would this configuration do for games, music, movies(room space aprox.25 m2)?(i need clear sound for each of them).I'm also intrested in whether a 2x fanless 1600 xt+sli mobo+zalman reserator2 would be quiter and faster over the 1900 xt alone. The config i'm about to put together will have to last for about 3-4 years with minor upgrades(ofcourse)so it is vital to be stable with no conflicts.Any suggestions are welcome.

These are the apparent requirments for playing Blue-Ray HD DVD's from cyberlink. You should be in the clear and be staying there for quite a while.

Nice Rig :D

Yeah, just remember the HDCP compliancy for your video card & display if you want to play any HD-DVD or Blue-Ray in the future. I know the new Blue-Ray drive from sony requires it to play movies, can't vouch for any other ones. The new cards from ATI and NVIDIA (X1950pro, 7950gt) all have HDCP compliancy. With the older ones, its hit and miss.

But judging from how nice your rig will be, you already knew this.

Well actually blue-ray discs are eventually what i had in mind but i'm more concerned whether the system could match the visual performance of a system using a standard pc tft monitor. Also i would like to know if a crossfire mode of 2 ati 1600 xt (158x2 euros and fanless) would be overall faster than a single ati 1900 xt (310 euros -fan) in the resolution that hdtv tft monitors use (1024x768 or 1366x768).Is water cooling efficient?i'm not so into overclocking but i would like the system to be stable and silent.

It's just that i was away from the pc scene for over than two years so i'm not so sure about the components and whether there will be any conflicts.I red in this forum somewhere that abit will have conflict problems with ocz memory.Maybe the gigabyte mobo would be a better purchase.I would like somebody who actually has a system like that htpc + hdtv to give some hints if possible..
