Plug n Play - Can I turn it off?

I am so used to NT4WS that switching over to Win2K is driving me nuts.
Is there any way for Win2K to NOT auto discover new hardware and install drivers? I liked how you could install a bunch of adapters in NT4 and the OS wouldn't know a thing, until you wanted it to. Win2K has all this Plug n Play crap that I really dislike.
By the way, NT3.51/4 was (is) the first and only Microsoft OS I've had any exposure too, till now (guess you could say I romanced computers very late in life hehe). Being so used to it now makes this PnP stuff unacceptable to me.
Disabling Plug n Play service causes other headaches. I even tried setting the "Plug n Play OS" in the BIOS to "NO", without the desired results.
Any suggestions?

Cheers,

If you loan a friend $20 & never see them again, it was worth it.

Hi!

Why do you wanna disable it? I never have had any problems with the pnp in w2k, and I've installed a couple of hundred machines with diffeent hardware with it.. :)

I wouldn't suggest it. I turned it off and it took about 20min to load or shutdown windows.

Sarcasm maybe the recourse of a weak mind,
But it can be funny as hell.
