When visiting the forums, everything seems to work properly with one exception:
When I click the red "X" to close the window, I sometimes get a message that internet explorer has stopped working, and microsoft is trying to find a solution. This happens about once every two or three attempts. This does not happen with any other web site, just with tom's forums. Most annoying. I have been unable to find a common set of circumstances that trigger this. The content of the forum thread does not seem to be a factor because the same thread works sometimes.

I am using vista home premium-32 bit, and onecare 2.0.

I've never seen that issue on any of the office Vista machines.

Maybe it's a bad cookie? Try deleting it.

Sengoku, you may have found the problem. I started noticing it when toms converted to the new forum software. I deleted all the toms cookies I could find, and so far, the problem has not recurred.
thanks.

The problem is still happening. I am now on vista-64. I have tried deleting all cookies and browser history to no avail.

I am having the exact same problem as you geofelt. New system build and a few days ago it started and only effects toms hardware. It's never happened on any other site and seems to be happening more frequently here. I too am on vista 64bit.

I am going to try out the cookie deleting to see if that helps.

I think this may be related to tabbed browsing.

Ya I thought mabey it was related to tabs becase when I would open a few tabs from Tom's it seemed like thats when it always happened. It has happened with just a single window open and no additional tabs thou. It hasn't happened since I cleared cookies either.

Well it's been happening again and still only on Tom's Hardware Forums even after clearing all cookies. I also know it's not related to having a few tabs going on this site because it still happens with a single browser window here with no additional tabs.

I have been trying different things to see if I can get any insight on the cause of the problem.

I did not have any add-ons except microsoft and adobe. Disabling them did nothing.

I reset explorer advanced internet settings to default with no effect.

I enabled script debugging, no effect.

There must be something that tom's forums software is doing that IE7 does not like, This happens nowhere else.

For security, I use onecare live, if that might be a connection.

Any clues would be appreciated.

I think this has to do with having multiple threads of tom's forum posts open at the same time. If I get an e-mail about a response to a forum post, I will click on the link. This will open a new tab. If it is the first tab, I can close it without a problem. If it is the second or subsequent tab, IE7 terminates. I do not think it is related to the content of the post. I can repeatedly close ie7 with only one tab without a problem. What post it is does not seem to matter. If there is only one tab with a tom's forum post, and several other tabs with anything else, close works normally.

If I set ie7 to open a link from other programs in a new window, I get one post per window, and they all seem to close ok.

I use outlook 2003 for e-mail.

Update:
I usually get several tabs open because I click on the link I get in an e-mail reporting a new post on a forum entry that I subscribed to. I don't bother closing them until I am all done. I know that many would be doing the same without problem. Maybe not all use outlook-2003. I tried creating several tabs, and pasting the e-mail url to each of them, accomplishing the same thing, albeit in a clumsy way. Well. it worked! Close worked as it should.
I next tried the links from some e-bay e-mail messages, creating several tabs and they all closed properly.

My conclusion is that there is something in the forum code that ie7 or outlook does not like at close time, and should be fixed.

Looking at the vista error log, it seems to be nttdll.dll which causes the problem. it is version 6.0.6000.16386 and the abend is at offset aa0fb with a code of 0xc000...374.

Can anyone shed some light on this?
