HI, i will be upgrading to a DX 10 system within 1.5 years, but there are 2 things i could do, as i have an AGP system, i will either just upgrade the video card (AGP) 4 now until next year, or i could get a new system now, i was also thinking that there could be an advantage of waiting till next year due to switches to 65nm prosses and DDR4, and lower power consumption as well as the fact that we will probly no where ATI and NVidia stand

If i just get another video card it will probly be:
XpertVision 6800GS Super 512MB 256bit @ 425Mhz/1000Mhz (AU$260-AU$350) and i plan to unlock the extra pipelines and OC 2 around 460Mhz/1150Mhz hopefully

Or a brand new system with DX 10 card wen it is released (approx. AU$2000- AU$2500)

Current System:
P4 560 @ 4.0Ghz with Thermaltake big typhoon VX cooler
Gigabyte GA-8IPE775 Pro M/B
1GB DDR400 RAM
200GB PATA WD HDD
300GB SATA Seagate HDD
16x DVD Burner (unsure of brand)

Well DX10 is around the corner so you'll know soon enough if it's worth it.

As for the card you plan on buying, don't like it at all.

I'd say go with the GF7600GT AGP or X1950Pro AGP depending on price and availability, both will mop the floor with that card, and the resale on them in a few months time will be much greater than an evenmore outdated GF6800 series.

It's your money, but I'd prefer a GF7600GT knowing full well that in 6-18months time that'll still be an attractive card to someone, especially the hang-on luddites who are the only ones left buying AGP at that time, and who'll definintely think that regardless of performance 7600>6800, it's obvious the number is bigger, eh!

I'd save my cookies(and cash) for DX10 cards later on, why your thinking of building the SUPERCOMPUTER for 2500$ is wierd because if you arent afraid of OCing you CPU/GFX card, then i suggest you simply upgrade to C2D 6400(210+) and some good C2D mobo (AW9D) buy 512 of 800DDR2 of ram and your set for only 400+ dallors(i dont know how much it might be in AU) but you can keep the case, keep the HD and CD-Rom drivers and buy somegood DX9 card to tie you over, something like 7600GT, heck the 7900GT's are getting cheaper now.

at the moment i think i might just wait till next year and lay off the pc games for a while, since if i get next years DX 10 card it will b better than this years so i might as well get all other new stuff 2 go with it

but you can keep the case, keep the HD

actually, my case would need 2 b replaced coz its got 2 little ventalation, and the hdd that windows is on (200GB) would need replacing coz its parrallel an not serial (and i always want 2 hav 2 hdds coz windows screws up a lot on me so i want a second hdd 4 files that i want 2 keep) and my current power supply wouldnt hold off a new DX 10 card so i would need a new one anyway and is easier 2 put in an empty case so i will just buy all at once, an who noes, AMD may come up with a C2D competitor, and quad cores are around the corner, i guess ill just see wat pops up in the next 9-12 months, ill use 360 4 now, thanx 4 the help
