exetrnal hard disk not reconised

hi i hav bought a cn-hdd25 external enclosure usb 2.0 caddie for my laptop hard disk drive which is 2.5 20 giga byte 4200 rpm ibm travel star when i connect it to my computer the xp operating system does detect it but it come up as mass storage device with a question mark on it and it says hardwrae is not fully operational it might not work something like that do you think my hard disk is dead i tried the freezer trick no sucess i tried to find out the problem i think my hard disk has died what you think thanx for ur help much appricated

question marks do often mean there is a driver problem
have you got any drivers of the device?
if not go to their homesite and see what you can download there

plug the USB cable in, then hit the power button afterwards

no i dnt think it the driver problem my hard disk didnt spin anyway it broken the hard drive i got so frustrated i broke it, it suppose to be plug and play device i have installed drivers but still no gud so i jus tuk out the hard drive disk n opened it n jus bashed it up it was definitely hard drive failure i think the motor burned out

Sounds like a dead drive, the computer sees the external hdd controller, but the HDD itself isin't being recognized...
