Xbox 360 worth buying?

Well, I have one, and if you have the money, go ahead and buy it. If you know how to mod it, then liquid cool it if you are going to play a lot. Dont get the Nyko cooler, it makes things worse.

The only problem I have with mine, is freeze ups now and then on Lego Star Wars 2, the game had a glitch, but they patched it though Live.

No overheating problems with the hardware, it just gets warm around it from the hot air.

If you buy off eBay, make sure you buy from a legitmate buyer, I sold and bought some of my 360 accessories from eBay, and had a guy take my money when I bought a controller, but PayPal brought it back.

Make sure they have good feedback.

You are willing to plonk down 300$ on a new console but you'll be damned if you buy a 20$ dual analog joystick? Reviewers and people like you who bitch about PC control schemes drive me nuts. Heavens forbid you should play arcade/sports titles with a joypad. Ya know the 360 wired joypad works for PC's... You could stare at the 360 joypad plugged into your PC and make believe you got a 360. Wouldn't that be fun!

90% of decent 360 games are bound to come out for the PC anyway. I try to avoid EA like the plague as well they are money grubbing bastards.

Meh, the control issue was 50% of your problem and is easily solved by using an Xbox360 controller on your PC.

Without spending thousands on a HDTV, all console games run at the equivalent of 640x480 or so. At that resolution a Geforce 3 Ti could push out decent graphics.

Console games are always more expensive, and seem to go up in price with each "Generation" of consoles.

The Xbox 360 may look pretty now, but next year it will be old hat compared to PC graphics. When the PS3 was announced, with what is basically a 7800GTX 512 onboard, it was amazing. By the time it is released we will have the 8800GTX. Within a year or so of release, probably something even faster. (R600?)

The games don't look like shit because of the PC, it's because EA morons are too lazy to make the games nice looking. The 08 games will surely look like the 360's even better.

But if you only play sport games, then get the 360.

There are bringing the xbox 360 engine to every EA sports game, for the PC.
The cool thing is that if you buy the 360 controller for the pc, the icons change to the xbox 360 buttons, not 1,2,3,4,5.
So, the Xbox 360 in your case would be a total waste of money.

He already has a nice pc, though. Why should he spend $400 dollars for the console, $60 per game, $60 a year for xbox live and other expenses?
It would be a decision to consider if he didn't already have a nice pc, but he does.

xbox all the way if you want to play sports games maybe or dont care about low res jaggid edge no upgrade path gaming. xbox has its place bu will never match a computer when it comes to power. since im not microsoft i cant afford to sell a box for $500 less then they paid for it and make my money back on games. so its cheap big deal, graphicly its nothing compaired to a computer. i could build a computer with comparable graphics ability for close to that price but why? i dont feel the need to downgrade just cuz its $400. personaly i rather not play console ports they are always inferior when it comes to graphics and controle costumability unless you get a controler which is pointless other then sports type games. If your argument is console all the way cuz i like to play with my friends in hte living room then ok thats defanitly in the consoles domain. any game though thats any good is going to be on every platform we can only hope though it was designed for a computer so the only thing that happens when ported to a console is they strip it graphicly to run on the lower end hardware. i say lower end as in not up to top pc hardware specs.

I had played all NHLs since 94 on PC and Console (played the original on my cousin's SEGA), and I was their bigget booster and supporter until about 2002 and then EA started doing things that pi$$ed me off, now finally they got to you too.

If you buy NHL 07 for the Xbox you're simply supporting them again, and believe me as someone who knows, EA NHL 07 SUCKS! You want SEGA's NHL2K7, I have played them on my Xbox and the Xbox at work since 2K4, and it's a much better gameplay experience IMO (I still play NHL on occasion at other people's houses).

The problem is you're blaming your PC when it's really EA.

I also didn't like the controller comment because it continues the misconception about PCs (any controller you can get for console you can pretty much get for PC but not vice versa, this is the ones I use and they're great, just like the one I use at work). While I haven't played with the NHL07 on the PC I'd be surprised if you couldn't adjust all the controls, heck I could do that from like '98 onward. They may have changed the combos and stuff, but you should be able to assign keys manually.

Even Sega chages the gameplay every year and you kinda have to relearn things, I doubt EA is different on the Xbox, but I rarely play it anymore.

As for the visuals, I think you're not comparing apples to apples, and if you're comparing an edge-blending/bleeding CRT/Plasma to your more precise monitor at different resolutions it's not the PC that's the issue, it's how you're dispaying the game, and I think that's the thing most people here have issue with.

Really it's EA that's the problem for you major issue, not the PC itself.

Anywhoo, in the end if it's causing you so much trouble/concern then get an Xbox, just don't ask for permission or feedback from a PC crowd and then expect them to take your criticisms of the PC littley.
I have PCs and an Xbox and GameCube (which is out on loan) a PSP and a few single arcade units, and they all have their uses and benifits, and I wouldn;t even think of comparing them head to head, so doing so here is pointless.

If you want one, get one, IMO the XBOX is the best 'out of the box' sports game machine, but if you have the time and effort, it's not the best possible overall.

If you want one though, get one, they are nice machines, and have some nice Xbox only titles, but even that isn't because of PCs but because of the developers/distributors. People need to stop confusing the two.

EA is a company that understands when it comes to sports games it doesnt pay to put all the bells and whistles into a pc version since most anyone plays that type of game on a console. The only argument to not getting a xbox is if you dont intend on playing games for it. I dont personaly like consoles even though the wii is something i might look into becuase i like the old old nintendo systems the nes and snes if i could find a snes and nes style controler for the pc i would of course probly not even consider the wii. EA does ruing almost everything it touchs though. Might not be a populer game here but earth and beyond was by far my fav online game and EA took over midway and destroyed it out of business.

no game on a console looks better then a equialy designed game on a PC only time that can be true is if hte designed intentionaly downgraded a pc game so the console game looked better. Consoles never have and never will most likely have as good graphics as a PC thats been a fact for a long time and as far as i can see will remain that way. but like i said they dont really care about sports games and pc. sports games go to the console easyer to play. normaly a game you play with friends in front of a tv anyways so there is no motive to waste money on a pc version.

The bottom line is: if it's REALLY worth it to you, buy an XB360. It's not that big of a deal. But, I would just live with lame looking graphics if I were you and wait for '08 versions.

sum ppl said its a waste to buy a console when you got a nice rig. ok look at it this way, buy a pc game for 50 bucks, beat it or get bored and throw it aside. THATS A WASTE! Now if you can rent a console game for 6 bucks at blockbuster but only have a week to play it .....saves you 45 bucks every time you rent, now multiply that by the amount of games you play every year and you can c how much your SAVING with a console. sorta makes sence right?

I'm both a PC gamer and a 360 gamer. Some games are just better on a particular piece of hardware imo. Games I'm sure would be better on a 360, however RPG and FPS are almost always better on a PC.

Just my 2 cents.

Had the same debate. I saw this thread scrolling on toms page and thought 'wow this could be the answer I was looking for last week'. Turns out it's a bunch of crap.

Here are my thoughts:

1. If a game comes out on a console and pc at the same time, I'll buy the version that has the best review. (Be it graphics engine or multiplayer capabilities)
2. If a game (say Halo) comes out on a console and is not set to be released for a few years on the pc, then I will buy the console version.
3. Would I buy a console for one game coming out this month (GoW). NO!
Would I buy a Console knowing that thier are going to be some highly anticipated exclusive games coming in the near future. YES! (Halo 3, Lost Planet, Bioshock, GoW, Halo Wars).

What sells me on a gaming platform, be it pc or console, are the exclusive titles. A PC is a PC. I will never build a pc without the hardware to play the latest and greatest games, but my pc also dubs as a workstation.

If you were asking if you should buy a 360 over building a pc, then I would bash your head in. But you didn't. The 360 is a great piece of hardware if you want to take the afternoon off from staring at your pc monitor and relax on your couch while you fire off few games of Halo. Beleive me, after 10 hours at work using a pc, you really can't blame a guy for wanted to take a break.

Without reading this whole entire flaming thread, might I make a suggestion?

A while back, I too had trouble getting use to the keyboard for graphics. I went to Radio Shack to see what kind of controlers they had (only thing close) and they had a PSX to USB adapter. This allowed me to use my PS1/2 controller for my PC. My friend liked it and went and found one for an XBOX controller as well.... this could be a viable option

i won't get one as i haven't said anything to be picked up on.
