I have 2 Nvidia 7900 GTX running SLI and am wondering if upgradeing to a 8800 GTx single card would be on par with what i have or would it be faster or would i need to go sli to be better ?

The 8800GTX should be better. I would say "most likely" it'll be better.

7900GTX, or 7800GTX are better than two 6800Ultras.

I would wait couple of weeks for benchmarks. They'll be surfacing soon.

Nobody here has seen the 8800GTX working yet, if by chance there is an "inside man" here somewhere, he is under an NDA.

Any answer anyone here can give you is pure speculation.

I'd be willing to bet that 2*6800Ultra (16x1x6 each, 32x2x12 in SLI) with 400MHz core each would beat a 7800GTX (24x1x8) 430MHz core in most benchmarks.
