Hi all,

I think the 1950xtx should have 650MHz core speed and 2GHz memory speed, right?

But when I looked at the Catalyst Center, it gives me the following infor:

GPU
Requested: 648MHz
Current VPU Clock: 506MHz

Memory
Requested: 999MHz
Current memory clock: 594MHz

What the hell is going on? I'm really confused!

Why are they all so much slower than they should be? Is this normal, or is the card faulty?

Please help me and correct me if I was wrong, thanks a mil.

Final Update:

Just did a small test.

1. Open Catalyst Center, see the 506MHz and 594MHz

2. Keep Catalyst Center open, play Far Cry and run its Demo Loop

3. Alt+Tab swich to Catalyst Center

4. You'll see 648MHz and 999MHz (Requested=Current) for 3 seconds

5. Then the 1950xtx thinks it's dealing with 2D Desktop graphics, so the current speeds turned to 506MHz core and 594MHz memory.

Those are 2D clock speeds.

When in a 3D application like a game, the speeds go up to the rated speeds.

Don't worry.

Video cards use GDDR memory, which stands for Graphics Double Data Rate. RAM operates in a sort of "rise and fall" fashion. The speed advertised is the combination of the "rise and fall" which comes out to 2.0GHz (effective). If you're still confused, just multiply the "999MHz" value by 2 and you'll see approximately the 2.0GHz they advertise.

Yeah, I know I can multiply 999MHz by 2 and get the rated 2GHz memory clock.

But the thing is, that "999" was displayed as "Requested", and what I want to know is why there's "Current memory clock: 594MHz" displayed right under 999?

"Requested" means that's the speed the card will run at in a 3D application. In Windows you will see lower clock speeds!
