Gas prices have fallen $0.40 locally in the past 3 weeks. DIE EXXON DIE!!!!!
http://www.usatoday.com/money/indu [...] ices_x.htm

They're gathering their strength for the next big price surge...
well, while I would agree with tht IRT the oil comppanies greed factors, this guy thinks $2.00 are "more likely than unlikely"
| Quote : "The reason prices are going down so far so fast is that they shouldn't have been that high in the first place. Two reasons they were: fear and speculation," says Mike O'Connor, president of the Virginia Petroleum, Convenience and Grocery Association. It represents gasoline distributors who operate about 4,000 stations.

UK Situation. Regular unleaded presently at ~£0.96 per liter.
1 liter = 0.26 gallon [US, liquid]
So we pay roughly £4 per us gallon, although that does include duty.
Yes.. that is nearly $8 per gallon.
ye, pipe down you yanks.
$2.87 a gallon here. No worries or complaints. Wish it were higher. Maybe get Mom's outta' 11mpg 6,000 trucks used to get shoes at Walmart.

Gas has always cost more in the UK and Europe, and Ive always fellt for you gys, but then, how much of that is tax. The UK has always been insane when it comes to taxes. The only place on the planet that has figured out to legally places taxes on the taxes of taxes and filter it all back to the shoulders of average citizen.

bout time
Yup.. you are looking at Duty then 17.5% VAT. To make it even better they are now introducing congestion charging schemes where you will be looking at paying ~£5 per day just to drive into the city (already in London and coming to Manchester shortly.) The talk is of tracking systems on cars so they can charge you a distance / location / time of day levy and really put the boot in.
I don't run a car as I just can not afford one. The government wants me to use public transport but even there I get shafted. I pay a premium to travel before 9:30am on buses and trains so as a worker you get well and truly focked over by them. Stealth tax & stealth surveillance (the congestion charge in numberplate recognition) and you really can control and monitor your population..
Anybody now understand why I'm looking at buying a push bike?
Well, you know, once upon a time there was a bunch of fat, rich farmers who got tired of the ridiculous taxes and moved out of the UK. You could follow their example.....just a thought. Of course, if you did, you'd have to give up the good stuff and learn how to drink coors.
Nothing is perfect.

Where'll he emigrate to - RC's back yard?
Lake RC can come & go at time back there.....
Canada is a master of taxing as well. $71 bill and $10 of it was just in taxes.
What a joke.. supposedly pays for universal health care eh?
Thing that annoys me is when the gas companies say a $1 rise in oil prices (per barrel) validates, instantly, a 20 cent rise in gas prices (per gallon). No lag, no direct relation, just whateevr they feel like.
And we, as idiots, get mad and look mad as channel XX news comes over and asks us, while we fill our SUV up, first "How much is this setting you back? [/smiley reporter face]" and "What are you going to do different? [/attempt at serious contientious reporter face]".
To which, our answer, as the representory spokesperson of all the American people, is "Nuthin".
NOW, you get a RISE in oil prices, no new refineries being built, and gas usage not declining (as well as it being summer, when they say the additives put in teh gas cost more to produce) and prices are going down.
BS.
They are trying to curb the growing hybrid market and other alternate fuel source development. They finally got to the price where people said enough, and were willing to spend teh extra $$ to get a different car that would be less dependant on the oil industry and they are aware of this.
They want to slow development of this before people can, feasably, just charge their commuter car at home with the solar panel/shingles they have on their roof. We are nowhere near that now, and they want to make DAMN sure we aren't until they find some way to get exclusive rights to the sun.
Isn't that right Smithers?
You have to factor in tarrifs, cost of transportation, fuel useage themselves, cost of doing business, and many other factors.
Barrel goes up, gas prices have to go up. But how much of a raise should it be no one can say without looking at the business model and cost of doing business.
Take the cost of a barrel of oil, divide by the price you pay per gallon. I imagine you'll see it raise around 20-25 cents per dollar a barrel goes up. That being very general.. a ball park factor of what you'd expect.
I know what you're saying, but the price is never linearly associative to the rise in net cost.
Also, they increase gas prices BEFORE it happens, and take their time in lowering it when prices go down.
The thing that bugs me is not even the prices going up and down, but the way the oil industry likes to point fingers and say "It ain't our fault, it's them darned Arabs!".
Proof that the $$ is not directly attached to anything they have given reason for precious hikes is right here in front of us. Gas goes down, in the summer, with the same number of refineries running, oil prices at record highs, and no word of any development that would lower them.
I like the fact that they are lower, as many do, but I hate being lied to.
Oil in the winter is used for other things as well.
Oil companies want x% of growth per year. Remember, they are a business. They're not going to absorb a loss at their cost over the people buying their product.
If they want to grow at 15% a year, they will find a way.
SO it goes back to the beginning riser.
Why, if everything is the same, are prices going down before Labor Day?
And not just a little?
It's a bit rough, but I think this should clear it up for you two.
You are missing a few sticks.....
Complaining without seeking a solution is a waste of time.
Women do this.
Complaining to search for a solution is a better use of anyone's time.
Women do not do this.
Through deductive reasoning I conclude you are a woman.
Not.
I am the guy who likes to know "why". Not just that it is.
When you know "why" you can start to figure out a way to stop it, or avoid it.
Right now, with my car clocking ni at 1700 miles for the past 7 months (hello mass transit) I could give a flying Llama if they increased teh price of automotive gasoline to $10 a gallon. It effects me very little.
I take that back. S+H would be a biatch.
But aside from that, I just do not like it when people are not up front. Companies, politicians, whatever. They all lie through their teeth just enough so that the "average" dumbass believes them.
So whatever. I dunno. I am just pissey about things like this.
I need a beer.
It disturbing to see how the two of you are so similar yet at opposite ends of the spectrum.

Those are good points. Also, dont forget those evil SUVs...they are single handedly responsible for gas shortages which cause high prices.

Begin with the end in mind.
You want cheaper gas prices?
Everyone needs to drive less and/or buy fuel efficient cars.
Every major problem consists of multple smaller problems. /NASA rocket theory.
Let's do a quick break down.
Fuel efficient cars are not appealing to the masses due to size, comfort, and cost.
The infrastructure for alternative fuel vehicles has yet to be established.
Cars are slowly becoming bigger and maintaining nearly the same MPG - More efficient engines results in larger, more luxury cars, which off set each other.
Technology advancements are not being driven at a high enough level compared to the overall 'need' for the technology.
Multiple problems. Looking at the big picture will solve nothing. Break the problem down into small problems and fix those.
You want to know how to solve the gas problem?
Change the attitudes and mind set of those who buy gasoline. The mass majority of those who buy gas take it for granted.
The gov't puts out a chart on how to eat to help people understand that.
Americans are over weight because we over eat. We abuse the fact that we have a surplus of cheap food everywhere. That mentality and lifestyle factors into EVERYTHING people do in this country.
But fixing the human problem requires effort. Lets make technology improvements because we're too lazy to do something about the true major problem. Us.
LOL, you still really beleive SUVs are causing this, dont you?

Perhaps a cull is in order.
Shall we pull names out of a hat, or do you have a few targets in mind?
I'm a virtuous man, I have no names in mind. I think a fair and democratic solution would be to name them all. Anyone wishing to live should simply appear before me, and plead for their lives. I would of course need to make some small charges, just to cover costs.
I'll be the guy standing next to you collecting the money. I won't make change either, we will mail the change to their house in 4 - 6 weeks.
If they make it past you.
***increases charges to cover recently hired quick thinking staff***
Welcome partner.
Here boss. I brought you a case of beer.
And a case of Coors.
Use the Coors to throw at anyone in line who is acting up.
***sits with Jef drinking beer, watching grovelling show and profits grow***

Nice.
* sets up cheap'n'cheerful (but highly insanitary) cafe to feed hungry workers *
* opens vodka bar *
Think I'll need bouncers for the bar too - can your security firm help there?
Certainly.

OK, but if they're working out of the bar I want a (modest) cut.
And for the love of god, don't give him any credit
I see the night shift was here...
...*hands Tom another beer*...
Here boss, you look like you are working hard.
...*hands Tom slip for 25% raise as we now all have additional responsibilities*...
***pays of Llama with the now sacked Jef's wages***
Sorry Jef, we've been up and running for hours now and even the Llama is managing to bring in a wedge.
Yes, but only by selling his lucious arse.

you mean chimps can ride bycycles
IMO, you should go for it, far quicker in congested traffic, especially in between school holidays. All you have to put up with is bloody drivers. Seriously, always in the bus lanes and cycle lanes and they never do anything when you stop them, bloody wimps.
sorry for bringing derailed thread close to back on track.

Yeah.
The closed circuit of your bedroom has been so boring lately. When are you going to start bringing the farm animals home again?
