Ok first let me list the specs of the computer i will be building next month:
Thermaltake armor series full tower case
Asus P5W-DH Deluxe mobo
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4 Ghz
2 GB (2x1 GB) Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 PC6400
3.5" floppy drive
500 GB (2x250 GB) Western Digital Caviar hard drives in raid 0
Zalman cnps9500 92mm
Two Samsung DVD burners from my current comp
Creative X-Fi Music soundcard from my current comp
I'm planning on buying the 8800 GTX when it comes out, but I'm not sure how much power it will require. I want the Hiper Modular Type-R 580W (http://www.frozencpu.com/products/3216/psu-164/Hiper_Modular_Type-R_580W_Power_Supply_-_SLI_Ready_-_Blue_HPU-4B580-MS_V2.html?tl=g11c26s213)
I know it'll support everything else fine but my main concern is the 8800 GTX as I hear it will be pretty damn power hungry. Will it be enough?
That PSU can handle it, although you'll be damn close to the ceiling, like Yao Ming walking in a normal building...
nVidia states at least 450W for the GTX (System wise) and at least 800W SLI (I don't know where they came up with that number, probably pulled it out of their ass because I doubt the card can take up 350W)
That 580W will be fine, 20A on one rail and 18A on the other, just don't expect to go SLI with that thing, and don't overload your comp with other stuff either... it'll be fine otherwise.
