SLI and Crossfire is over rated. Just get an nvidia 8xxx series or wait for ATI's new DX10 card. Why buy obsolete hardware? Other than being cheap, if you think about it, you'll waste more money because soon enough, you'll have to upgrade your graphics card again. Basically, stick with a DX10 card... that is, if you can wait...
haha craptimation nice, if your gonna wait for an r600 from now your gonna be out of action for a while cause thats not till nxt year , g80 is out in a few weeks or so so if i could afford to, i'd be one of the cool dudes that are the first to own 11 inches of 300w energy consuming gaming goodness and then laugh at the clowns with G71's

find me a game that would run on your g80 card that wouldn't on mine and we'll laugh together

Oblivion at 1600x1200 resolution with full eye candy....muahahah
Anyway, yeah, I think that a lot of people are hoping the G80 will allow them to run Oblivion maxed out at higher resolutions (I sure am).
And yeah, if you always buy low-to-middle of the road hardware, you're always going to be upgrading. I bought a 7600gt when they came out (I have 350w PSU, so it's as good as it gets for me), and I already need something better (or at least I WANT something better... need might be a strong word).
So, if I were you I would wait for g80 or ATI's 1st-gen DX10 cards (or if you are really smart wait for 2nd-gen DX10 cards to come out).
If you are going to build a great gaming rig, I would suggest you only get one great GRFX card (depending on your monitor you might not even be able to tell the difference anyway) and spring for a Core 2 Duo proc, probably the E6300 as it has 4 Mb of L2 cache.

However, THG did gaming tests and found that the extra 2M found in 6600+ models doesn't really help your FPS in games that much (if you are running a 2M/4M version with the same clock speed).
Oops, so much for being a C2D fan! Yep E6600 is what I was thinking when I mis-typed. Thanks for keeping me honest. I would still bump up for the E6600 for the headroom down the road. If you into OC'ing then the E6300 or E6400 might be good bets too.
Yeah, I would personally probably go with 6600 right now, but you can't really go wrong right now if you buy a C2D chip (in my opinion at least). They all offer supreme price-to-performance ratio, so no matter what you're getting a steal.
