E6600 @ 3.2 stock cooling

Out of interest, has anyone managed to pull off such an overclock with stock cooling:

My Rig:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 (2.4ghz)
2 x 1gb Corsair XMS6400 C5
ASUS P5B Deluxe Wifi
ACBel 550w PSU

Overclocking:

CPU: E6600(2400,266x9)@3200,8x400,1.3250v on stock cooling! (CPUz reads vcore as 1.280v). Every vcore setting in the bios manually set to minimum bar cpu (1.3250v) and ram (2.0v), the ram needed the extra volts cause for some reason if i set the ram timings manually the system posts at some low clock speed, if i set timings by spd it defaults at 800@4-4-4-12 rather then 800@5-5-5-12, hence the extra vcore for ram, otherwise everythings at stock vcore!

Dual prime95 stable, plays games all day, no issues! max temps seen in ASUS Probe are low 60's, im amazed cause every intel i buy usually is a dud when it comes to overclocking (celeron D 2.4 hit 3000 tops, P4c 2600 hit 2900 tops etc).

My system isnt even complete - its currently in a crappy $60AU case, no front intake fans, a single 8cm rear fan, 12cm lower pannel fan and a 8cm duct fan - for now noisy and pathetic but it works and everything remians cold until i get my Thermaltake Shark case and Thermaltake BigTyphoon CPU HSF, then we will see how far this baby goes.

For now ill run it in at 3200, ill go for 3600+ with better cooling (case and heatsink).

So, has anyone else has such luck to get a setup at FSB1600 and 3.2+ghz on stock vcore, stock cooling and minimal extra cooling? and how far will this ram go at 4-4-4-12, and why it is going there with SPD.

Oh and whats the default vcore for a E6600?

Incredible to see that being pulled off. On stock cooling is almost unheard of. I plan to get a E6600 this coming chrismas :D

I have had that running for a while now - see the config trail:

http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=1321888#1321888

The best settings I could get my memory to run Corsair 8500C5 is at 5-4-4-15 @1000 / 400 Mhz FSB; all the tests ran fine (including overnights) but for some reason I was getting minor instability. I'm not totally sure if it was the memory or something else, but after changing to 5-5-5-12 with 400 mhz fsb, it runs (what looks like) more stable.

Just so you know, I own a Thermaltake Shark. IMO, it's good for cooling, but remember this, there's no dust filter, meaning all that dust is going to be sucked into the case. Over time, the dust will get in between the fins in the heatsink, thus, disturbing the airflow around the heatsink. I have an AMD Athlon 64 3200 on an ASUS K8N-E Deluxe mobo (built it 2 years ago) and put a Zalman 7700Cu heatsink (very nice and quiet) and with that and the case, without cool n quiet, it idles around 33C with my room temperature being 25C. But after a month, 24/7 operation, my temps will jump up a few degrees due to dust clutter. Just some advice. Overall, the case is very nice, roomy, good airflow.

Now, back to your CPU (sorry about being off topic on the case, just thought I'd let the guy know). Have you tried 400 * 9? Mine E6600 won't stabilize at that speed, regardless of the fact that it's watercooled :( Perhaps I'll try the 400 * 8 though tonight. What RAM are you using?

sorry out of topic, can you run the beast stable at 333mhz x9 (3ghz) with all on stock voltage and heatsinkfan?

i'm heading to it if it can.

I'd use Intel's TAT to get proper temps at load. You may be running way high.

Huh? On an AMD machine?! I ran TAT on my new Intel machine before I started overclocking it! LOL.

My CPU @ stock, hasn't gone over 55C 8) since I got my Thermaltake Silent Water. Too lazy to overclock it. Haven't found the need to yet as I'm still working on figuring out how to dissipate the heat from my gfx card since I'm using an Accelero X2 on it. Mobo temps get to 60C :(... and that's with a P180B case!

55 C on water and 60 C mobo in a P180 not overclocked?!? Although those are within safe specs, they sound rather high. Unless it's me.......

I've got a 6300 @ 3.0 with a Zalman 9500 and it barely hits 55 C in dual Prime 95's......

I read somewhere the p965 can't handle 4-4-4-12. True??
I got this from newegg.

Notice: Only DDR2-800 memory supporting JEDEC approved 1.8V operation with timings of 5-5-5 or 6-6-6 is supported on Intel Desktop Boards based on Intel 965 Express Chipsets.

Well, if you take a look at the Antec P180B case, the waterpump/radiator/fan is hooked to the front of the case due to I could not get it to function properly when hooked to the back of the case. I have the 2 fans in the top rear of the case blowing exhaust, 2 40mm fans on the NB and SB and the included ASUS fan on the heatpipe thing next to the CPU. The water cooler keeps my CPU cool because it pulls cool air from the front. However, the disadvantage is that it vents the hot air right onto the gfx which dissipates it's heat towards the motherboard and right next to the SB, which is where the motherboard sensor is located. I took a temp gun to measure the temp coming out of my case and I got 32C. And now, I've lost the quietness due to the water pump and the OCZ GameXStream 700W ps. :( I have to figure out a better way to get the heat out of the case before I overclock again :(

And no, you're right, that's high for me as well, seeing that my AMD machine, the mobo idles at 32C and maxes out at 36C and the CPU never gets above 42C...thanks to the thermaltake shark case 8)

Perhaps it was a sign not to build a new computer =/

Meh, thats insane, BTW how much did u pay for the CPU in WA its $495AU.

i got my cpu at direct prices, it was closer to the $400's rather then the $500's :D

welp mine seems to be doing it (800mhz C4-4-4-10) fine at 2.0v (stock ram voltage 1.9v)

the higher fsb pays off, the thing WAS running at ~3.4 with 9x multiplier because at first i couldnt use fsb 1600 even with the vcore on everything up in the limits (till i figured my ram was doin strange things like defaulting at 4-4-4-12).

lariva - system specs? and did u have to raise any chipset voltage or anything?

Eurasianman - 2 x 1gb Corsair XMS6400 C5

I don't know about E6600, but my E6300 achieved 3409MHz on stock cooling.
I suppose yours will definitely hit higher, with the higher multiplier?

I'm currently running @ 410x8 on stock cooling, 24/7.
It gets to 3600 (400x9), but then overheats when doing anything meaninful. :(
The E6600 is one hell of a chip, that's for sure.

How so? I have Corsair XMS2 6400C4 and I've been able to run it at 889MHz @ 5-5-5-15 @ 2.1V without a sweat. I give up lol!

I haven't really had much luck with this build. Too much heat (literally, my heater has yet to come on since it's gotten colder outside! Then again, the thermostat is in my room :p ) Slow POST. And I've already had to reinstall XP 4-5 times? Give or take and I just put this computer together in the beginning of September.

I'll just be happy with stock speeds until I can figure out how to expel all the heat out of my case.

Anyone ever try leaving their computer in a refrigerator, while running 24/7 at full load? :p

Oh yea, I tried overclocking to 400 FSB yesterday. Booted up, but the hard drives wouldn't load :?: :!:

question is, anyone had luck using the default vcore? and my asus board seems to undervolt a little too!
