Finally looks like ATI has a good challenger for the 7600GT depending on street prices.

Wins more than it loses at FS (NV HQ in the drivers)

Anand paints another picture again doing most tests without FSAA. The X1650XT does better with 4X FSAA.

That's TWO X1650s in Xfire mode, james. The single X1650 XT performs very close to the X1800 GTO in most things.

Well, it's about time Ati came up with a native part to challenge the 7600 GT.

The only real complaint is timing. It took them forever to compete with ther 7600 GT, and now with a few months until the mainstream Dx10 parts some out...

Still, gives ATI a strong top-to-bottom lineup for the christmas season.

7900GS = 10FPS
x1650xt = 15.1FPS <- 50% faster then the 7900GS
x1650xt xfire = 27.3FPS
October 30, 2006 2:45:31 PM

Oh, you linked to Oblivion foliage.

Yeah, nice result there, although still not really playable, and I doubt the X1650 XT could repeat that performance relative to the 7900 GS in any other scenario...
October 30, 2006 2:49:15 PM

Any graphics card is only as good as the worst case senario, and Oblivion foliage is worst case senario :p
October 30, 2006 3:33:42 PM

... Only if the purchaser plays Oblivion, mate. :)

And even then, they'll probably be running 1024x768 or lower. Odd that Firingsquad left the playable resolution out of the testing :?:

Wait, you mean Anand didn't have a similar review?
Wow that's surprising!

True, but remember that they had the X1300 and X1600 out there for about 5 months before the GF7600 and GF7300 showed up, but of course, from the start the X1600 was a little bit of a let down, if they'd released even the X1650Pro at where they targeted the X1600Pro it would've been better. Considering their actions on the rest of the line their strategy mimicked the previous generation's GS/GTO combos by crippling the X1800s.

It's about time though, just wish they had brought this laptop as the X1700 instead of what they did bring.

Hey Cleeve, long time no hear. lol.
Gotta add my oddball comments in

First off, these reviews so far have failed to show the difference between Mininum FPS between the 1650xt and 7600gt. So far, that along with AA, have been ATI's current gen hardware's niche. And Oblivion is playable at 21 FPS, especially, if the mininum FPS stays reasonably close to that number, which is NOT the case with Nvidia's current line up.

Secondly, no one seem to notice that this is a decent card from ATI that will actually fit into a normal person's case. It's about time.

But I have to admit, if you're not playing Oblivion, this card does not make too much sense until it hits the ~$120 range.
October 30, 2006 4:45:12 PM

It's going to be a tough call as it looks as both OC in the same range too. Chalk this one down to which games you play.
October 30, 2006 4:54:48 PM

Wow it seems pretty cool. Also how much better is it then the GF 7600GT? and 24pixel shaders.... pretty cool
October 30, 2006 5:01:07 PM

So this thing basically performs like an x850xt pe except with SM3?
October 30, 2006 5:12:49 PM

Hehe. Interesting way to put it, but yeah that's a good assessment. An X850 XT with SM 3.0
Same could be said about the 7600 GT. :)

A nice card, probably the best bet for someone playing Oblivion on the cheap, but other than that it's a toss up with the 7600 GT. So pricing is going to matter...

I am starting to consider this card for Xmas.. it will be a nice upgrade from the GF6600. But the GF7600GT is still my first choice.
October 30, 2006 6:07:59 PM

The 7900GS and 1950Pro still look to be more worthwhile, providing 50% more performance at only 25% higher cost.
October 30, 2006 6:59:20 PM

Agreed, especially the ASUS x1950 Pro thats only $165
October 30, 2006 7:45:59 PM

I've been waiting for this card...

From what I gather it equals the X1800GTO and equals or bests the 7600GT (not by much though)...

Good enough for me, I'll jump on one in december if it's around $130.

im sure this will give consumers even more choice than there already is which is a good thing as always. still i wish that in HDR tests or at least open exr ones they would still include ones with AA and HDR and to hell with nvidia.

not that this sort of card affects me but i feel the consumers deserve it. i mean people might want to know how well or badly in oblivions case the card performs.

also it is good to see 19 x 12 res getting more attention. when i was looking at reviews for my comp back at the start of this year that res was hardly ever, if ever seen.

Well said. I wouldn't mind seeing a few HDR+AA benchies myself, but I don't know how much they would tell you... not much point if the cards running at 5fps, is there?
October 31, 2006 1:30:56 PM

So does anyone know when these cards are expected to hit the market? I am specially looking to get and AGP version of one. This will be my last upgrade till my next PC. Any information would be helpful.
October 31, 2006 3:09:22 PM

They should be out on the streets now.
October 31, 2006 4:10:53 PM

Does anyone know if an x1650XT will be coming to AGP? As my old 3.0 Prescott could do with a little update, but i don't feel the urge to spend ~£200 on an x1950Pro.
October 31, 2006 4:20:42 PM

It's supposed to, but the 7600 GT is available now and performs very closely, so that's an option if you're in a hurry.
October 31, 2006 5:38:45 PM

Yes for sure there are 1650xt's for agp. If the launch date was yesterday; does that mean I should be able to find them on e-vendors today? i can't seem to find any anywhere. not even a pci-e one. (The AGP one is the one I want). If anyone has a link to a vendor offering this card in AGP in the US please post it. Thank you very much.

I have not seen any hard evidnece about AGP X1650XT like we have with the X1950 pro. As far as availability, FS review mentions the week of Nov 13th (13-17) they should be in stock.

Wow that's surprising

I was shocked speechless to once again see all those no AA tests. I wonder when NV will let them enable FSAA in reviews?

I'm thinking for the GF8800 review when they have the native 16X AA, and they'll only test it as long as that's 'special' compared to the competition.

Interesting how it was in the original GF7600 review;

Wha happen, where'd it go?
November 1, 2006 12:34:26 AM

The title and content of the article clearly state this card will be available in AGP

http://www.tgdaily.com/2006/10/31/tul_x1650_xt/

I have seen similar articles for different manufactures as well. I guess I have to wait till mid November before I can get one. I thought they would be available on launch day. I guess launch day and available day are 2 different dates. oh well..

You know that 1950 really is just such a sweet deal, not as good as the asus, but man it's hard to go for the X1650XT for anything close to that price.
