This is X-post from graphics & display as the question popped up in regards to my PSU.

Could anyone advise if my current PSU would suffice or should I upgrade?

Here's my setup:

PSU: Thermaltake purepower 430W
MOBO: MSI Platinum PowerUp Edition
CPU: Core2 E6600
RAM: 2GB 667MHz DDR2
VIDEO: HIS ATI Radeon X1900GT
HDD: 1x Western digital 160 GB SATAII
Optical Drives: Sony dvd-rom & Sony DRU-820A burner
FANS: 2x 120mm sys fans (non-LED) 1x 90mm sys fan (non-led)

Plus I'm about to add: Sound Blaster Audigy 4 & Antec internal light tube.

It may work...heres my specs, with no probs. 3700+89watts,sb2zs,dvd/cdrrw,1 sata hdd,1900xt512mb and my enermax 420watt,18 amps per rail,29 total between the two rails psu.I cannot upgrade further as my pci slots are full and only one pci-e.But this system works fine with this psu

So true.I reserached my psu beforehand, knowing what I needed.Im just sliding under the safe barrier, but like I said Im maxxed out now, just waiting for vista dx10,new build......and of course new psu.Ill wait til dx10 maturity first tho, probly still will need a small nuclear supply even after second gen of dx10,but heyyy its worth it :)

I've just had a look at the PSU, it's not actually a purepower model as I 1st thought, it's a thermaltake 430W model: XP550 NP (p/n: W0084) it was included with the Soprano case I purchased. I cannot find it on the thermaltake web page anywhere (I'm assuming it's one of there cheap generic models)

Currently I have this system running, is there any problems associated with running this PSU on my system. I'm a bit concerned if it will cause any damage.

Should I just simply cease running my system until I have purchased a new PSU?

Thanks

Edit: I've just had a look at the link you supplied technology-sponge, Um it doesn't look good for my PSU!

Thanks, I'll look into it, any recommendations (without breaking the bank!)

I would assume this PSU would be fine for my old system:

Athlon 64 2800+
Abit KV8 Pro
Radeon 9600XT AGP
1x SATA
1x DVD-Rom 1x CD-RW 1x FDD
1GB 400mhz DDR
Sound Blaster Audigy Value
3x System fans

I have purchased the Antec NeoHE 500 & I have a few enquiries;

1) Should I use the 4+ 4pin +12V connector to connect power to my CPU (as I am using a dual core cpu) or I should I just use the 4-pin +12V connecter? (which is what I was using with the TT 430W)

2) Also the NeoHE only comes with 6 molex connectors, where I require 7 & 1 FDD connector (antec uses 1 of the molex connectors with a FDD connector adaptor)

Is it safe to run say 2 case fans off 1 molex & 1 case fan & light tube off another? or 1 case fan & FDD?

This might be a dumb question but I have never had any issues where I've ran out of molex connections!

thx,

the mobo's got the 8pin connector I guess I'm a bit over-cautious when it comes to seeing something different!! As I was only previously using a 4-pin connector from my old TT 430W.
