I have recently bought a computer and while typing this i noticed some minor lag. When I am typing my computer may just freeze and if i continue to type my computer will suddenly pop up everything that i have typed. My CPU is running at 35 minimum and 54 max. Currently its at 53 while typing. I have nothing on basically but motherboard, norton, msn, steam, and other important computer needs on my start up when typing "msconfig" on the run window.
I have defragmented, disk cleanup and doubts that i have any spyware/viruses.
Is it because my comptuer is runnin gtoo hot causing it to slow down so i need a new hsf?
My build is
Core 2 Duo 6400
Asus P5B
Geforce 7600GT
WD Sata2 250GB
Kingston 1G
Centrion C5
Thermalake TR2
Any flaw that could possibly could have happened? Is it too hot? Should i bring it back to the store i ahve got my computer built from?
Oh it aint too hot, mine runs about 53C idle, 63C load.

its not to hot but wow at this dudes temps. i would be redoing my thermal paste if mine even got close to those numbers.

Tried that already, but i'm not that worried, as long as it doesnt go any higher
Im using AS5, stock HS and fan, no OC (which makes my temps even more odd, unless theyre reported wrong). Might just need to reseat my HS a few times.
EDIT: You should see my dual prime95 numbers, 73C in a matter of about 20secs. Nice and warm
Had to stop the program so I didnt burn up!

Ok, three things..
(1) The CPU may indeed be way too hot and throttling. The MB utility is not too accurate and can be totally wrong if there's a problem.. Coretemp will give a better idea. http://www.thecoolest.zerobrains.com/CoreTemp/
(2) Software or driver problem, unlikely with a new build. However a corrupted video driver can do this. And yes it can be a symptom of Malware.
(3) What I suspect, poor hard drive access. If an IDE cable is damaged or a Sata cable partly disconnected the system can keep trying to initialize the drive (not necessarily the one you're using) causing the hangs. Also a defective drive can do this. I've had this isssue several times over the years, causing what you describe.
I would definitely be looking at it from a software angle. Has it always been acting like that? Did you install any new software lately? Are all the drivers up to date? Do you have 1Gb or more of RAM? You don't need to answer me, just ask yourself those questions. You might want to post in the software section for smarter guys than me to respond if you can't figure out what hardware problem it might be.
Get SiSandra or other similar software to see what is hogging the CPU if anything.
well its possible for the video card to malfunction but then i doubt there is new software i downloaded that could have caused it. Recently i have just downloaded flashget, realplayer, media player classic and some codec for mkv/avi.
i'll get this checked and probably ask them to give me a new video card or check the sata cables first.
Coretemp will give similar readings to the motherboard monitor software because it reads from the same sensors (its just that motherboard software is screwed up)
I have actually noticed lag problems as well, mainly with the desktop and loading up firefox. The icons take some time to load up when i go from another task to the desktop. Also, FEAR takes a ridiculous amount of time to startup.

Unload them. See if that makes a difference. I' m just suggesting you look at software as well as hardware as a possible cause of your problem. Wish I could offer more help.
oooo good old real player. that thing was so awsome back in the day not only would it crash instantly on windows start up but it horked my whole system.
I would say this problem is not a heat issue even though 53(127.4F) is hot for not really doing anything. Even at those temps you should not be getting hanging or any heat related issues that is a bit hot but NOT that hot. Do you have any of the performance settings in the BIOS enabled? I had this very same problem with my Asus P4C800-E Deluxe and it ended up being that i had one of the memory's performance mode options enabled in the BIOS which was causing the hanging. For my board i am pretty sure it was called Performance Acceleration Mode for the memory. I am not sure if your BIOS has this feature or not but i thought any help is helpful. Also like i said check several of the other performance options in the BIOS mine started doing a slight hang out of the blue i tried everything, reformat, new hd, reflash bios, and then new memory. Then i simply unchecked the memory performance option and BAM fixed. Hope this does help some..
Yea its funny how these mobo manufacturers put all these "performance enhancing" features on there boards just to sell stuff. None of them ever work properly and usually cause problems. Anyone remember fast-writes and what performance boosts that was supposed to give?
sound like a possible driver conflict.
symantec software can cling to every registry entry almost like a virus itself.
I use it but switched to internet security because of the way it hogs the system.
just curious the motherboard a just the plain p5b or is it the deluxe ?
your psu ????
Ive got a p5b normal but I dunno about JunnYeen.
As others have said you are running hot but not that hot unless your sensor reading is way out.

I would make sure as it seems the most likley cause.
| Quote : As others have said you are running hot but not that hot unless your sensor reading is way out. |
HE IS NOT RUNNING HOT! I idle at his load temps - I'm the one whos running hot. Look my face is burning
Ok he is running hot. Your melting !
seriously though you need to replace or at least reseat your cooler otherwise your cpu wont last very long.
Lets face it typeing in Word(?) is not exactly a demanding task for the CPU.
I run at 55c max cpu load on both cores (orthos cpu stress test) and idle at 28c on an e6600(@3ghz). Every day usage is at around 40c.
Ps. the figures are from Core Temp. If you want to compare with most monitoring programs subtract about 8c from the figures above.

you installed a fresh windows or you ported an old installation on the new machine?
did you overclock your system? if so, did you make sure your comp is stable?
did you do stability tests? stress on cpu and ram?

No fkin joke thats WAY hot.
My friends e6400 runs 59c at 3.2ghz lmao
You installed the heatsink rong or somthing.
I have friends who actually let them run at 67C full load.

I think you should stop being friends with them before they destroy something of yours
Hmm ... I don't think it'd fail ... coz my buddy stress that for 24 hours stable at full load ... and nothing failed ... no errors nor warnings on prime ...
But over time it will put far more strain on the components than a cool running system.
I'm pretty sure that rig ain't gonna fail anytime soon ...
But if it does, I'd be the first one to report it here on TGForumz.
What sound card are you using? I may have an answer to your problem, which is (or rather was) pretty much the same as mine.
