ASrock 775DUAL-Vista?

Not perfect as it only has 2 SATA ports, x4 PCIe, and 2 DDR2 slots.... hang on I'll find another....

EDIT: Hmm, in that price range you dont come into the 975X chipsets, which usually use the ICH7R southbridge, which has 1 PATA controller onboard and is usually (not allways) suppliemented by another, so you are looking at P965, which uses ICH8R which has *no* PATA support, and is usually supplimented by a Single PATA port from another controller......

If you dont want to go for the ASrock board above, then you are going to have to look through 945PL boards, these use ICH7R but most of the ones I can find dont integrate a 2nd PATA controller, as they are aimed pretty low end. The Core 2 Duo support on them is also patchy, and overclocking potential for a Core 2 on a 945 is... crap.

Your best bet would probably be a P965 based board and a PCI ATA controller IMHO.

- 5 x Serial ATAII connectors
- 1 x ATA133 connector

hmm.. doesnt that mean it only supports 2 pata devices..

I want to able to keep my hdd and dvd-rom and cd burner thats all..

if i choose to go the c2d way.. The price drop and quality difference has me either leaning for.. AMD2 4400 x2..

or a "in betweener" pc.. that might not be that upgradable..

AMD3700+, 7900gs

Keep my ddr400 gig of ram, etc..

might be able to keep PSU.. will a 400w manage?
