Hi,

I have a router (Linksys Wireless AP + Cable/DSL Router with 4 - port switch) and I want to set up my home network in such way that only certain MAC addresses are allowed (or only certain connections). The staff that I connect are not only computers, but also things like AirPort Express. So, I guessed that the best way to do it is to filter MAC addresses. However, as I can see, in the router filter setup page I can only filter OUT (or block) some MAC addresses. Can you advise what should I do here?

The reason for this is that I want to prevent wireless connections from my neighbors to my network. Typically it is done through WEP, but my router WEP is not compatible with AirPort Express WEP, so I can't use it (unless there are some tricks that I do not know). So, what should I do?

Your help is appreciated.

I know that with the router I use, there is an option for wireless to allow access to only certain MAC addresses. What model router do you have, the 54Gs offer this capability.

WEP is WEP. It's a standard.

MAC filtering is easily bypassed if the person knows what he/she is doing. Spoofing a MAC addy is extremely easy to do.

Having said both those things, any admin MAC filtering on WLAN gear will filter all but what you allow. I doubt yours is any different but if it is your would be a very unique configuration/firmware. If it is, then I would probably look to upgrad the firmware.
