Hey all, looking to build a sever for nwn2, dont really need a graphics card becuse wont be playing the game on there just running the server if motherboard comes with onboard video or if not a cheap one is fine., i dont have anything so starting from scratch, i assume a 929 ddr1 system would be best for that price range any help or ideas?

thanks for all those in advance for your help

"Best bang for the buck" should also include future upgrade-ability IMO. For that reason I'd suggest an AM2 system something like this:
Athlon 64 3800+ Orleans 2.4GHz AM2 $116
DFI Infinity ULTRAII-M2 - nForce4 Ultra AM2 $90
PQI POWER Series 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR2-533 $190
GIGABYTE GV-RX13128D-RH Radeon X1300 128MB $45
Samsung SpinPoint P 160GB SATA3.0Gbps $60
LG GSA-H10N 16X DVD+/-RW (12X DVD-RAM) $30
Rosewill R804BK Black w/ 300W 24-pin PSU $26
Keyboard, mouse and OS $100

That would be a great setup there...maybe a 3500+ instead of the 3800+ if it's on a low budget. The X1300 is kinda overkill, but there arent any cards that are below that and worth it. 2GB of ram probably won't be necessary. You could get 2*512MB for a cheap dual channel 1GB config. The mobo is great, I can't think of anything else. I have a 3200+ in my server, and it runs well. Whatever you do, don't get Corsair Value Select, that PQI is good memory.

I would recommend the AM2 socket as it's upgradability is good for at least a couple years. The socket 939 is already discontinued with the exception of 939 opteron processors.Anyways go AM2 and buy a cheap video card and you should do fine for a game server.Goodluck.
