Hello
I have just finished installing Windows XPsp2 and am trying to install additional software. When I put a disk into my Sony DVDrw 18x cdrom drive, I get the error message:
"Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a format that is not compatible with Windows."
After google-ing the message, some people suggested reinstalling Windows. I was wondering if there was some other solution. My hd is in NTFS format.
Thanks!

Check that you have DMA enabled for your DVD drive.

(As appropriate, basically: Start, Control Panel, System, Hardware tab, Device Manager button, IDE/ATA/ATAPI controllers, Parallel controller, Primary/Secondary channel, Transfer mode set to DMA)

Ok, checked and it is set to DMA if available. I also have recently tried:

Updating the mobo drivers. (biostar p4 series I915p-ao7)
Updating the firmware for sony dru-830a
Updating chipset for p4

Nothing has worked, I keep gettin that same error.
