i am using a Asus P5VD1-X motherboard. It support both AGP and PCIe graphic card. However, the manual states that it can only support PCIe graphic card x4.
what is PCIe x4 and what's the different between PCIe x4 and PCIe x16?
does it mean that it will not work if i plug in a PCIe x16 graphic card?
its a pritty poor mobo but good for the budget pocket,
what kinda gfx are u thinging about buying ?
i wouldn`t recomend a very very fast one eg. 7900+
cos it only suports 4x
but it should suport them, i had a 7600GS at first and it worked fine (after i got it replaced the gfx was faulty....)
but i would recomend u upgrade ure mobo to a full 16x mobo
but if u dont have enough money the pci-e should work fine but dont take my word for it, it SHOULD thereticly work
and u can always just try it with a very cheap pci ex gfx
good luck, post back to see what ure doing
hey thanks for the reply....
so ur mobo is also a pcie 4x? i've just bought the mobo beginning of this year so i'll be using it for quite a while. i am using ATI Radeon 9600 XT AGP card now, am thinking of upgrading the gfx card in the future.
so if i can't use PCIe 16x graphic card on this mobo then i may have problem playing better games...
