Hey,

I have a belkin router and wireless network card...

Is there any reason why when my PC starts up, the computer should have problems connecting? If i click renew.. it works...

It's intermitent... sometimes works fine.. sometimes doesn't..
but only happens on start up.. so theres no problems once its up and running..

It's been happening after I renamed the SSID to something else. I have since turned on the ESSID broadcast after having turned it off to "increase security"... it seems to happen less regularly now..

so anyone had similar problems or know if the ESSID being switched off was the reason?

Turning off SSID broadcasting isn't much of a security measure. The SSID is still sent in the beacon. But I guess if it doesn't negatively impact your WLAN (and it can) then there's no harm is leaving it off.
Depends on what client software your using but if your using XP's ZWC utility then you can manually add the preferred network name, the SSID

intermittent:

try changing the channel of the router, disable firewall & antivirus, & if the wireless router is sensitive with cordless phones make sure that its not near to those devices or make sure that those devices are off ...

creating a profile could solve the problem too ...
