Does software have to be specially designed to take advantage of the multiple cores. Kinda like how software had to be for the dual CPUs. For example Adobe in some of its products took advantage of multiple CPUs by threading data to each CPU to speed up the application.

Can anyone post a link or something that will help me better understand this.
