Hi,
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate on HP Pavilion DV2000 laptop.
I found that some DVD's won't play on the machine. In My Computer folder, the F: drive does not change even if I insert a DVD. There is no issue about playing CDs and some DVDs. I found that the DVDs which refuse to get detected are mostly commercial DVDs.
Is it an issue about DVD region?
The drive is 'hl-dt-st dvdram gsa-t20l ata' and it was by default coded to Region 2 (though I live in Region 5 - India). I tried to change the region but I was not successful. I then installed region killer and now the default region is region 5. However, even this has failed to detect the DVD.
Pls share your expertise...

Thanks.

sounds like the laser is on it's last legs. try cleaning the lens, if that does not work it's new drive time i would think.
no reason a region 5 would not read data discs, and even video dvd's it would usually give you a quick message video telling you it cannt be played due to region lock.
