AM2 Opteron Vs. AM2 X2

Just recently, I have purchased an AM2 Opteron 1212 instead of an X2 4000+, since the 4000+ is out of stock for the longest time ever on newegg.


They both have 'similar' specs and same price, except for the core name and the series:

AM2 Opteron 1212 Santa Ana 2.0Ghz, 103W, 2x1MB L2 cache
AM2 Athlon X2 4000+ Windsor 2.0Ghz, 89W, 2x1MB L2 cache
both are Vista ready and support Virtualization Technology


so what are the advantages and disadvantages did I have over the X2 4000+ beside the Opteron is more stable and uses more wattage?


Yes, I do plan on overclocking it with Zalman CNPS9500LED and a good airflow


any opinion will be appreciated

amd stopped producing the x2 4000 a while back as it costs more to produce it with 2x1mb cache compared to the x2 3800 with 2x512kb cache and it wasn't worth it. the same happened for the rest of the 2x1mb cache line( x2 4400, x2 4800) but you can still find them easily.

Other than the additional 14watts to cool, i would say you got the better processor of the 2. The Opteron just may overclock better, but it might also need a touch more cooling as well(though 14w isn't that much). GL
