I have a Asus P5B, and am looking to make a machine with it that is extremely cheap. Core 2 Duo 6300 is Nice, but I was wondering if their is a cheaper processor. I was going to watercool this machine with parts I have, and want to buy a bunch of TV tunners. Ill even OC this machine a bit if I could.

I will only buy from NewEgg, but dont know which chips support the 965 chipset, DDR2, and other stuff.

I only need it to be 2 cores, because I want to record multiple Channels.

I think I can build a device for allot less money then a DVR with equal compatability.

805 Dual Core and is supposed to be OC friendly however I'd spend the extra on the E6300. 805 runs hotter and while a fast CPU nothing compared to the C2D.

is it on the P5B compatability list?

Intel® Core™2 Extreme / Core™2 Duo / Pentium® Extreme / Pentium® D / Pentium® 4 / Celeron® D Processors
Compatible with Intel® 05B/05A/06B processors

At this price the machine becomes more expensive... Anything cheaper... and yes, If I was going to buy this, I would step up to the x6300.

Digging through Asus's site it appears it is supported so I'd say if you need dual core and cheap, that's the best way to go. Given that you're water cooling and not opposed to overclocking then you'd be good to go with that.

Id say go with a Pentium D805. It's FSB is so low that it can be oced to 4ghz+ with simple DDRII 533.

That should provide plenty of performance for what you need and it's absolutely dirt cheap.

The 6300 will provide similar performance if the 805 is at ~4.1-4.2ghz but is a bit more expansive. You choice really

well we will see... I am building a media center for my HomeTheater, and the enclosures are a bit small. I got the gear, just need a radiator. Dont know if I can pull that off.
