advice needed on which mobo and memory for a p4 3.0cpu

my athlon xp has given up the ghost and as a uni student i am short of cash. i have a p4 3.0 630 cpu and i was hoping for any advice on which motherboard and memory to go with it. i use my pc for uni work and mostly downloading bit torrents. i am told this cpu is crap but i need to use also i need a cooler for it
any help would be grately appreciated

  1. If it was me I would buy a core 2 compatible board so that you have an upgrade path. You could even toss in a quad core later on if you wanted. Any cheap ddr2 533 will work fine if not OC, but I would grab some ddr2 800. I would use a Arctic Freezer Pro 7 for a cooler.

  3. thnx a lot scarchunk, i am not usre that i can get that particular mobo over here in the uk. would you ditch the p4 and go for the dual core to start with?
