what are you useing this system for? if its for gaming then your not going to see that many benifts from going with a quadcore cpu and there going to be like $1000+ when you can get them off like newegg. it would be much better to go with a better graphics card.

change your motherboard to the Asus P5B Deluxe

and actually there is no possible way you spec'ed all that out and its total cost came to $1300 with the cpu included.

the cpu alone in that group is $999, and i'm not sure what your kind of rig this is going to be but if your not a gamer and not an enthusiast(since this is your first build) i don't see why your getting that expensive of a cpu.

Any Core 2 Duo would give you the same benefits and same performance as the Core 2 Quad due to the fact that not very many multithreaded programs out there. Regardless of whether you think the Core 2 Quad is more future proof by the time software is written for 4 cores these things will be much cheaper and other options will be available.

Why don't you tell us what this rig is actually for so we can suite it to your needs better

yeah i just relized that too.

forget the quad core, on the mobo i second what icy18 said, get a P5B deluxe. for the CPU get a E6400 or E6600 and instead of the 7600gt get a 1950pro. you edited you post to say that your not a hardcore gamer, but are you goig to play games on this at all? or is this just going to be a general purpose pc?

Tell me, and everyone else here, where you shopped to get a price of $1300.00 for that system including the cpu. I'll buy it in a heartbeat, if I still have a heartbeat.

Okay so that's an estimated $1,000 for the CPU and $300 for everything else on the list.

Good luck.

Sorry for the confusing I've made earlier, just ignore the price of the CPU (1000-1000 for me). I just put together the entire system just as listed above. It ran perfectly so far after updating to the newest version of bios.

I ran the 3DMark06 free version, here the results if you guys want to check it out....
